Getting to know Kosovo

Population

As of 2024, Kosovo has a population of approximately 1.587 million inhabitants, with a density of about 174 inhabitants per square kilometer. The country’s population is notably youthful, with a significant portion under the age of 35, contributing to its dynamic social and cultural life.

 

The most populous regions include the capital, Pristina, and other key municipalities such as Mitrovica, Peja, and Gjakova. Kosovo is predominantly ethnically Albanian, making up around 90% of the population. Minorities represent about 10%, with the largest minority group being the Serbs, who are primarily concentrated in the northern region, particularly around Mitrovica. Other minorities include Bosniaks, Gorani, and Roma populations. 

 

Major cities include Pristina, Mitrovica, Peja, Gjakova, Prizren, and Ferizaj. Other towns of tourist significance are Gračanica, Lipjan, and Vushtrri.
