We welcome you at Pristina Airport and transfer to Prizren, one of the most beautiful towns in Kosovo. We visit the Stone Bridge, the Old Bazaar, and the Sinan Pasha Mosque, built in 1615. Overnight in Prizren.
Prizren, the second-largest city in the country, is a historic gem nestled on the slopes of the Sharr Mountains. Known for its arts and crafts, it boasts beautifully crafted cobblestone roads, Ottoman-style architecture, and a lively atmosphere filled with shops, bars, and restaurants. Among its highlights are significant religious landmarks, including the 14th-century Orthodox Church of “Our Lady of Ljeviš,” the historic Stone Bridge, the Sinan Pasha Mosque, and the Old Bazaar, where the Church of St. George and the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour can be found. The House of the League of Prizren offers insights into Kosovo’s history. Later, we proceed to Gjakova, home to the Grand Bazaar—believed to be the oldest in Kosovo—also known as Ҫarshi. This area is rich with traditional houses, shops, a Turkish Bathhouse (Hamam), and the 16th-century Hadum Aga Mosque. Overnight in Gjakova.
This day is dedicated to Kosovo’s religious monuments and art. We visit the Monastery complex of Deçan, the largest medieval church in the Balkans, renowned for its well-preserved frescoes and architectural significance, built by Serbian king Stefan Uroš and his son Stefan Dušan. Continuing to the Patriarchate of Peja, a 13th-century complex composed of three small churches adorned with magnificent frescoes, we gain further insight into Kosovo’s medieval heritage. The journey takes us next to Gračanica, where a 14th-century Orthodox Church founded by Serbian king Stefan Milutin in 1321 stands as a triumph of Byzantine architecture. Nearby, we explore the ancient remains of Ulpiana, a Roman town in the province of Dardania, also known as Justiniana Secunda, offering a glimpse into Kosovo’s ancient past. Overnight in Pristina.
After an early breakfast, drive to Fierza, where we take the ferry to Koman on the Koman Lake. A magnificent two-hour ride showcases the beauty of the high-pointed mountains falling sharply into the emerald waters of the artificial lake, forming a breathtaking natural panorama. After this spectacular experience, drive to Kruja—the center of Albanian resistance against the Ottomans under national hero Skanderbeg, who kept them from advancing into Western Europe for 25 years. We visit the Skanderbeg Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, and the Old Bazaar, where the best handmade Albanian souvenirs can be purchased. Afterwards, drive to Albania’s vibrant capital, Tirana, where we spend the night.
After breakfast, take a guided tour of the major monuments and visit the National History Museum, which offers a great introduction to Albania and its people. Proceed to Berat, one of the most visited and characteristic towns in Albania, under the protection of UNESCO for its architectural uniqueness. We visit the Castle and the Onufri Museum and Ethnographic Museum. Berat Castle is of particular interest as people still live within its walls in their traditional houses, as their ancestors have for centuries. The castle once had over 40 churches, seven of which still remain, including St. Mary’s Church, now housing the Onufri Museum. Onufri was a famous Albanian icon master painter of the 16th century who painted many Orthodox churches in Albania and Greece, using a distinctive red color. After the planned visit, you are free to explore independently. Overnight in Berat.
After breakfast, depart for the city of Ohrid in neighboring North Macedonia. On the way, we drive through rural villages with wonderful countryside landscapes. We stop at Elbasan for a quick visit to the castle. Afterwards, proceed to Ohrid, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its cultural and natural significance. Visits include Saint Sophia, Plaoshnik, Saint Panteleimon Church, the Holy Virgin of Peribleptos Church, the Icon Gallery, and the Old Bazaar. Overnight in Ohrid.
After breakfast, drive to Stobi, one of the most important archaeological sites in North Macedonia. Lying in a fertile valley just off the central north-south highway connecting Macedonia with Greece, the ancient city of Stobi was a vital trade hub in its day. Visit the excavation sites with beautiful remains such as a 2nd-century amphitheater, the Theodosia Palace, and early Christian ruins featuring extensive and ornate mosaic floors. Afterwards, depart for Skopje, where we take a guided tour of the main sites. Visit the Old Turkish Bazaar, Mahmut Pasha Hammam, the Memorial House of Mother Teresa, the Stone Bridge, and Macedonia Square. Overnight in Skopje.
After breakfast, transfer to Skopje Airport for your departure.
